Reset

Well I’m in the process of hitting the reset button. Jersey didn’t go exactly to plan. Saturday was going well moving up towards the front by the mid-way point. Got into the group for 5th and then it was lights out for me out of nowhere. I went from feeling great and looking towards the next guy I could catch to pedaling squares. I’ve never had my energy levels disappear so quickly. I ended up 13th on the day.
On to sunday I went into the racing thinking maybe my legs will come around but that wasn’t the case. I just went out and pedaled squares for about 40 minutes and then pulled the plug. After the race it was a rush to newark, NJ to drop off our mechanic for the weekend TJ Grove. TJ has been great this cross season helping out brady and I along with the development team. After we dropped TJ off it was time to find the airport hotel. Unless you are on the millionaire program and stay @ the marriott right @ the airport this can be a difficult task. Brady and I had to do a nice lap in the ghetto trying to find the round about way to the hotel. Of course we ended up missing the entrance on attempt one so it was lap two in the ghetto. I could have picked up a nice set of rims for the rental car. At one point brady asked me if the doors were locked and i replied with it is a rental car how should i know.
So since I got home on monday I’ve basically just been in bed fighting whatever this fatigue I seems to have a long with a headache. I finally went to the doctors on wednesday and got put on some antibiotics. I rode yesterday for a super easy hour and plan to do the same today. Other then that maybe this is the rest I need to get my fitness back on track for the last 3 weeks of the domestic season. With only Jingle Cross, Portland, and Bend left it isn’t the worst time to recover before the one last surge towards nationals.
Here is a video of this A.D.D. bmx rider that talks half the time but his riding is insane. His shit talking is entertaining also.
Also Dylan put together a good blog on my cross season so far: Clif Bar Blog
Dirty jersey
// November 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized
Well I’m on the way to dirty jersey currently. It has been a long travel day for mcduff and I. We left dtown around 11 since Todd had a dr appointment. Our flight didn’t leave until 135 which meant we put in some serious airport time. After we arrived in our office aka dia with a 3 hour layover which turned into a 4.5 hr layover with the delay.. Myron flew in from Tucson and we met up with him.
Jersey should be a mess this weekend. I’m hoping for some good results. Jersey has been good to me in the past so Im hoping to keep the trend alive.
It has been so nice to be home for the last week and half. I’ve got some good training in and with the temperature in the mid 60s I’ve even got a little November tan going. This past weekend I did local race in Dolores. Dolores is about 44 mins from dtown and is a small quite town with just main paved. The course was awesome and we even had a decent size field. The promotors bt on a great event with the awards @ the local watering hole and all.
I’ll leave you with some videos from a ride I did with chad chainsaw cheeny. He showed me this awesome place off of la posta to rip the cross bikes.

Singers wedding
// October 18th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized
I had written a big update on the plane yesterday but i lost it so i figured pictures are worth a 1000 words.
So here is a shot of Singer and Lucy during the photos.

Here is Singer and Schmidty a couple minutes before the big walk down the aisle.

Dekrey and Schmidty after we had kicked it in our man banquet room in the hotel for 3 hours. It felt more like a holding cell. I know wedding planners are like the guys just put them in a room and give them beer they will be fine.

Lucy had a police escort to wedding all the way around New Orleans. That is baller Dekrey and I were outside when they pulled up. We heard them coming from blocks away @ like 50mph it was baller!!

We almost lost one during the pre game. Pecker was almost MIA as he cut half his face off.

Dekrey almost bagged a date @ the tux shop.

The best part of trying on the tuxes was that nobody’s tuxes fit. The people working kept on saying out of town measurement. I didn’t know that the unit of measure was different in New Orleans. I guess they run everything differently there.

New orleans

So I made it to new Orleans yesterday around 4. Noah and Lucy picked me up @ the airport with a perfect pickup. We headed right to a drive thur daiquiri stand. Nothing like getting a 32 oz margarita right off the plane. Then It was back to the airport to pick my Schmidty.
After we picked him up it was off to Lucy dads bachelor pad in downtown new Orleans. It is a sick pad within walking distance of bourbon st. We checked out where the wedding is taking place.
After checking out downtown it was back to the pad for a dinner party. Got to meet a lot of singers and lucy’s family. Then it was time for us to check out downtown. We ended up staying out for a while with the night ending with a lucky dog.
Quote of the.
Schmidty “i kinda like ironing, it’s soothing”
Dekrey ” that is because all u do is chase birds all day, and u don’t need to iron like the rest of us.”
Schmidty “Jesse, your a busser!”

Standby worked me over today. I woke up @ 3:30 mtn time with the hope of getting home by 1p.m. It was all going great got on the cincinnati to chicago flight, had an entire row to myself. Got an upgrade on the Chicago to denver flight. That is when it took a turn when i didn’t get on the d-town flight. So now I’m hoping i can get on the 3 o’clock flight otherwise i will be here until 4:45. Could be a long day in the office.
Cincinnati ended on a high note for me. Sunday I finally felt like i was actually racing. I got the hole-shot rode with powers and treboo for a while. Then was trying to hold off wicks and the second he caught me i flatted. Then I rode to the pit and had to get right back to work to hold off parbo for 4th. Luckily I was able to and rolled in for 4th on the day. It felt good to finally be back @ the front of the race for a while.
So now i get 36 hrs back in durango and then it is off to new orleans for singers wedding. I hope to get in a long mtb ride, gym, golf, dr. frank adjustment and begin glueing up some more tires.
Cincinnati Triple Weekend
// October 8th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized
So I’ve been able to kick it @ home for the last week and half. I feel like I was busy the entire time I was home. I put in a lot of time on the golf course.

Built up my third bike and glued a bunch of tires. Was doing some hard training including some gym work. It doesn’t seem like much when you write it out but i felt like i didn’t stop moving the entire time i was home. It has to get cold out so I can start resting and recovering.
So that brings me to Cincinnati for the triple UCI weeekend. I flew out this morning @ 6 a.m. arrived in Cincinnati @ 4:15 just in time for rush hour in the pouring rain. I think it took me close to a hour and half to travel 30 miles to my host housing with Ryan Lindsay. Currently I’m sitting on the couch waiting for him to get back from setting up the course for saturday. I’m going to be putting in a late trainer session. At least I’m on colorado time and we don’t race until 5:30 east coast time. It looks like it is going to be a mudfest which is usually right up my ally. Hopefully i got all of my laying it down out of the way in madison and i can have a clean race. They are calling for over 5 inch’s of rain in the next 24 hours which great success.

So it has been a long week to say the least. It all started with Singers bachelor party Thursday night. Go to his site noahsinger.com for photos and his account of night.
Then Saturday morning it was on to the plane heading to StarCross. I would have to say StarCross is one of my favorite races all year. It is under the lights, normally muddy, beer tent, it doesn’t get much better than that. I had a good start to the year ending up 6th on the night. The next day I wasn’t able to pull it together and pulled the plug midway through the race.
On Monday I was back on the plane to Berkeley to kick it @ Clif Bar for the day before the road trip to Vegas with Dylan, Eric, and Matt. Right when Dylan picked me up it was off to Capo to pick up the new team kits. They look really amazing especially the white kits. Their clothing is also the best cycling clothing I’ve ever had. So if you have choice on which clothing you use I would highly suggest check out Capo. They recently moved since the last time i stopped by. Gary’s runs the show @ Capo and his new office is baller. He has window and from what I gather from Dylan is if you have a window in your office that is big time.
On the way I had a small burrito for lunch. Eric wanted to see if I could really eat a burrito built for two. I dialed it in about 15 minutes but the stomach was a little off for the rest of the drive.
We pulled into Vegas @ around 6:30. We had a mellow dinner and I hit the hay since VegasCross was the next day. I wasn’t able to put together a good ride in Vegas. I missed the selection in the beginning and was never able to get across. It just wasn’t my night I guess you could say. After the race Todd, Meg, Powers, Timmy J, Driscoll, Specialized crew, and I hit the town hard. So many stories from that night but basically we got in @ 5:30 a.m. That made for a rough day on Thursday for all of us. Yesterday I spent a lot of time @ the show. Clif Bar had a foosball tournament going on at the end of the day. Todd and I got owned by team BA a.k.a snyder and sager. Towle was on the mic, eric was on the guitar and Dylan was running the show on the table. Definitely a cast of characters if you ask me.

Eric is some sort of a rock star i guess..

My display @ the Clif booth.. A couple people like snyder are saying i eat more than that.

Thursday night went out to dinner with a big crew from clif bar. Got to catch up with towle which is always a good time. That guy kills me.
Friday morning it was off to madison for the first two rounds of the USGP. The course was awesome. It is really cool when you do a race one year and then you come back the next year and they have improved the course. They basically left all the parts I liked from the year before and added some cool new stuff. My weekend wasn’t my best. I couldn’t seem to stay on my bike for the life of me. I hit a tree on saturday broke my bike got pissed and rode maybe my strongest 30 minutes of my life and ended up 14th from the mid 30’s. Sunday wasn’t my day either as i tossed myself on the pavement hard going on to the last lap.
Now I’m currently in a coffee down my U-DUB wasting time since i don’t fly until 630 tonight. Going to try to get on the 3 o’clock flight though. Got my fingers crossed. For more about this week check out cyclingdirt.com colt has been there every step of the way. From the racing to the foosball.
Cross Is Coming

So I finished up my high country training last week. Of course I did have one little mishap on my ride to pick up TT’s car after our big day. I rode from town up the hermosa trail and up hotel draw. Of course I was dropping my camelbak @ the base of hotel draw to save some weight on the road climb up. I climbed for about 35 to 40 minutes up the dirt road climb and realized about a minute from the car that i had left the keys in the camelbak. So it was back down hotel draw and flipping a bitch @ the bottom and climbing back up. A good way to get another 40 minutes @ the end of an 4 hour ride. If I was cracked it could have been a difficult climb.
This week I’ve been trying to get the leg speed to come around in time for vegas. I have spent close to 5 hours behind the scooter in the valley and on florida. Snyder has been putting in the hours on the scooter pushing the limits of the zuma. It has been a good week of training between the scooter time and the gym i can hardly walk up the stairs in my house. Also the new salsa chili con cross machine with mavic wheels, sram, fizik saddle, chris king headset, trp brakes, and easton parts are off the chain. I can say no B.S. it is my favorite cross bike I have ever had. I feel like it is on rails the entire time on the mtb trails in test tracks and the gulch, at the parks, and even on road.

So the cross season kicks off next weekend with star cross in seattle. I still have to get some tires glued up and another bike built up. I should be dialed in time though not to worried. Waiting for my fresh Mavic Ultimates before i begin gluing.
Playing a big game of golf on sunday with Tad, Barthel, Snyder and I should be a good time. This past week I’ve been spending sometime on the driving range and I think I finally figured out my driver.
