Some Cross practice

I’ve been loving the riding here and actually having the problem of riding too long. When it is 55 and sunny it is easy to do!! Today was a little rough with it raining all day. I flew here with close to nothing and had to go ballin on a euro today. Lucky for me it was the day after Three Kings day so everything was 50% off.

Mallorca Spain..

My phone has been cracking me on the updates. I have written a couple
and they haven’t posted. So here is a quick run down of the end of
camp. I had a really good day in loenhout ended up 30th. Baal I had
some issues and pulled the plug. Sint Nicolas I felt alright and was
able to manage 19th. So with that said @ this point my season
should be over right? Well I decide to stay in euroland and do the
next two world cups. Since the weather isn’t the best in dtown or
izegem I decided on Friday I should head south. Zac Mcdonald and I with
the help of our travel guides fox, els and Noel ended up Mallorca.
Nothing like booking a trip last minute. Thanks to ryanair we were
able to get cheap tickets. Ryanair is a crazy airline. You have to
pay for everything when you purchase your ticket. They say for every
extra kilo over 15 kilos it is 20 euros. Lucky for us our bikes didn’t
touch the scale. Also they are tight on the carry on bags or at least
that is what they lead you to believe. Mcdonald and I went with just
one backpack each but people had huge bags looked like they
were way over the 10 kilo limit. Next it was time to board. Ryanair
is like southwest with no assigned seats with premier
boarding for 10 euros. Zac and I didn’t go for that instead we just ran
all the way to the plane and passed just about everyone. Stupid
Americans!!! We ended up with an exit room right by the main cabin
door. Ballin with the leg room. Since ryanair flys out of some ghetto airport
instead of Brussels they only have two de-icers. After the door closed we sat @ the gate for 2 hrs. I didn’t
care I passed out but woke up to some guy chewing out the flight
attendent for not supplying meals. Finally we were off and we arrived
in Mallorca. After picking up the baggage it was off to our hotel.
Ken whelpdale of usacycling lives here and set us up with a nice
hotel in downtown palma Mallorca. Zac and I headed out checked out the
city got some food actually found the hotel which wasn’t the easiest
task.

Dinner in spain doesn’t get going until 9 so of course we were early
showing up @ 8:15. Then we went to check out a discoteca. We got
there around 1130 stupid Americans. It was basically just us and the
staff for a while. Then when we went to leave our jackets we had
safetly hidden behind a couch were gone. Mcdonald and I were saying
we felt like UNO and Dos two juniors from camp.

Sorry for no pictures my account seem to be messing with me and not letting me upload photos. I’ll try to get it figured out.

Diegem

// December 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Today was a rough day for this guy. Got caught in a first lap crash moved back up. Was feeling alright kicking it with jpows around 25th then laided it down sprinting out of a corner on ice. After that I couldn’t get going again half due to my knee and hip plus motivation. With this week of racing if it isn’t going great cruise control. The course was awesome super muddy with some deep mud section. Diegem is such a cool event @ night with a disco going on. When we were leaving matter and justin said it felt like leaving an NFL game. So many drunk people just getting crazy. The changing van after the race was comical. My quote was it felt like I had sandpaper on my taint. Watch for matters cyclingnews diary about the changing van coming soon. Mine is up but is lame about the routine in euroland.

Once we got home I remembered quickly how much it suchs to clean up. I think my leg warmers alone weight in over 10lbs thanks to all the mud. My legs have a constant ache in them from the last two races. Man it feels good to be back in euroland!!!!

On another note with Noel going to BMC I have come up with a job for the fox. He will be on cadel Evans dog detail. I think it might be what cadel has been missing to win a grand tour. If u haven’t seen it cadel has a Paris Hilton dog. So fox will be taking the dog to the starts, feed zones, and the post race interviews. On non race days taking the dog to the dog park. Also he will get a full yellow kit for the dog as well. If the dog is happy and thinking yellow maybe it will rub off. A happy dog could make for relaxed Evans! Noel was going for it but he doesn’t know about a fox taking care of a dog! It could end up going terribly wrong.

So tomorrow we have a rest day before loenhout on tuesday. Not quite sure what I will be up to. My bike needs some tlc along with my body. Matter and I were thinking about a movie to pass sometime. I’m going to try to put up another post tonight or tomorrow with photos from matter.

Zolder

// December 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

We are into hell week in euroland now. 5 races in 8 days with back to back races to start and end the week. Today was zolder and I was able to pull off my best world cup result in the elites to date. I ended up 31st I think with 28th within meters at the line. I didn’t have the best start between a 51 call up and not the best first 400 meters I would say I was mid 50’s for most of he first lap. Once I settled in I started moving up and got into the high 30’s by the midway point. I could hear proctor yelling 20 sec to the next group so I manned up put it down for a lap and closed it down. On the last lap I ended up winning the group and almost ctaching the next group on the pavement for 28th. Today I have to say I finial felt like all the motor pacing I did this cross season was paying off. I felt really good on the technical sections and then was able to put my head down and give it all I had on the pavement as well. Tomorrow is round 2 in diegem which is a circuit I have had success on in the past. Hopefully I can get a little bit of luck and move up some on the start.

Euroland

// December 19th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Well I’ve made it to euroland. it was one of my best trips to Europe yet. I had business class from Denver to DC and most importantly DC to Brussels also. Matter and Powers were on the flight in business class aswell. Powers lady Emily got the guy a camera for some reason. Last thing that clown needs is his own video camera. He did an interview with me on the plane and had me taping him in the Brussels airport right off tha plane. I guess he is going to have a video file up for this trip @ some point. After the 3 of us waited for 1.5 hrs for our bags.

After we got all our crap we headed out to meet up with Joesph. Joesph’s main job @ the house is driving. He has been to the airport about 10 times in the last 48 hours. Matter and I know Joesph as the guy who gets lost a lot. Last year he got lost on the way to diegam. yesterday leaving the airport he couldn’t find the van that he had brought. That was just the begining as he asked on the drive home if we could take a 15 min detour to pick up a mechanic. Jet lagged we agreed and he was off to find the mechanic. This of course didn’t end up going smooth. Matter and I ende up in the back of the van laughing as Joesph went to a house got shut down. checked @ a Volvo dealership, car wash, and did a about 5 laps on a around about.

Once we arrived nothing has really went down. I did an easy spin yesterday slept 12 hrs and did a ride with some openers. It is cold and snow is on the ground here in Belgium. tomorrow we have a world cup. I’m looking forward to doing a true snow cross tomorrow. The 7th row start is going to make for a circus of the day.

Reset

// November 20th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Well I’m in the process of hitting the reset button. Jersey didn’t go exactly to plan. Saturday was going well moving up towards the front by the mid-way point. Got into the group for 5th and then it was lights out for me out of nowhere. I went from feeling great and looking towards the next guy I could catch to pedaling squares. I’ve never had my energy levels disappear so quickly. I ended up 13th on the day.

On to sunday I went into the racing thinking maybe my legs will come around but that wasn’t the case. I just went out and pedaled squares for about 40 minutes and then pulled the plug. After the race it was a rush to newark, NJ to drop off our mechanic for the weekend TJ Grove. TJ has been great this cross season helping out brady and I along with the development team. After we dropped TJ off it was time to find the airport hotel. Unless you are on the millionaire program and stay @ the marriott right @ the airport this can be a difficult task. Brady and I had to do a nice lap in the ghetto trying to find the round about way to the hotel. Of course we ended up missing the entrance on attempt one so it was lap two in the ghetto. I could have picked up a nice set of rims for the rental car. At one point brady asked me if the doors were locked and i replied with it is a rental car how should i know.

So since I got home on monday I’ve basically just been in bed fighting whatever this fatigue I seems to have a long with a headache. I finally went to the doctors on wednesday and got put on some antibiotics. I rode yesterday for a super easy hour and plan to do the same today. Other then that maybe this is the rest I need to get my fitness back on track for the last 3 weeks of the domestic season. With only Jingle Cross, Portland, and Bend left it isn’t the worst time to recover before the one last surge towards nationals.

Here is a video of this A.D.D. bmx rider that talks half the time but his riding is insane. His shit talking is entertaining also.

Also Dylan put together a good blog on my cross season so far: Clif Bar Blog

Dirty jersey

// November 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Well I’m on the way to dirty jersey currently. It has been a long travel day for mcduff and I. We left dtown around 11 since Todd had a dr appointment. Our flight didn’t leave until 135 which meant we put in some serious airport time. After we arrived in our office aka dia with a 3 hour layover which turned into a 4.5 hr layover with the delay.. Myron flew in from Tucson and we met up with him.

Jersey should be a mess this weekend. I’m hoping for some good results. Jersey has been good to me in the past so Im hoping to keep the trend alive.

It has been so nice to be home for the last week and half. I’ve got some good training in and with the temperature in the mid 60s I’ve even got a little November tan going. This past weekend I did local race in Dolores. Dolores is about 44 mins from dtown and is a small quite town with just main paved. The course was awesome and we even had a decent size field. The promotors bt on a great event with the awards @ the local watering hole and all.

I’ll leave you with some videos from a ride I did with chad chainsaw cheeny. He showed me this awesome place off of la posta to rip the cross bikes.

Singers wedding

// October 18th, 2009 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

I had written a big update on the plane yesterday but i lost it so i figured pictures are worth a 1000 words.

So here is a shot of Singer and Lucy during the photos.

Here is Singer and Schmidty a couple minutes before the big walk down the aisle.

Dekrey and Schmidty after we had kicked it in our man banquet room in the hotel for 3 hours. It felt more like a holding cell.  I know wedding planners are like the guys just put them in a room and give them beer they will be fine.

Lucy had a police escort to wedding all the way around New Orleans. That is baller Dekrey and I were outside when they pulled up. We heard them coming from blocks away @ like 50mph it was baller!!

We almost lost one during the pre game. Pecker was almost MIA as he cut half his face off.

Dekrey almost bagged a date @ the tux shop.

The best part of trying on the tuxes was that nobody’s tuxes fit. The people working kept on saying out of town measurement. I didn’t know that the unit of measure was different in New Orleans. I guess they run everything differently there.
